About the Project
The Greater Chicago Food Depository’s Nourish Project represents a bold vision for food access, community resilience, and social impact. Phase II of this campus expansion delivers a LEED Silver-certified facility that doubles production for Chicago’s Community Kitchens, preparing thousands of meals daily for older adults, people with disabilities, and those requiring medically tailored diets. The project not only alleviates hunger but also creates living-wage jobs and builds partnerships with local businesses to expand food access and economic opportunity across Chicago.

All are welcome to join us at Designight 2025 on Thursday, September 18, 2025, when this award will be conferred. The celebration will be held at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance and the Harris Theater Rooftop Terrace in Millennium Park.

What’s possible when tradition meets innovation?

What’s possible when tradition meets innovation? At Lake Forest Country Day School, Partners by Design created a new hub of ingenuity designed to spark curiosity and empower the next generation of makers.

The Innovation Lab, Think Tank, and LEGO Lab invite students from kindergarten through 8th grade to experiment with 3D printing, CNC milling, robotics, podcasting, digital media, and more. Flexible layouts, writable walls, glass and metal facades, and exposed building systems all encourage hands-on learning and discovery.

Partners by Design Honored with 2025 ASID National Award🎉

Partners by Design is proud to be recognized by the @asid_hq as the recipient of the 2025 COMMUNITY Medium Firm Award, part of the organization’s prestigious National Awards Program.

This honor celebrates our work with the @fooddepository on its transformative expansion, a project designed to advance food equity and strengthen community resilience across the region. Central to the design is Chicago’s Community Kitchens, a state-of-the-art facility producing culturally responsive meals each day for vulnerable populations, including older adults, people with disabilities, and those requiring medically tailored diets.

The ASID jury commended Partners by Design for demonstrating how thoughtful design can deliver measurable social impact. By integrating functionality, flexibility, and purpose, the project not only supports the Food Depository’s mission to alleviate hunger, but also fosters economic opportunity through living-wage job creation and partnerships with community-based vendors.

The juice bar at @relativity.hq bursts with bold patterns, warm rust tones, and playful orange tree illustrations that bring a splash of summer indoors. Complete with a fully equipped kitchen and cozy lounge seating, it’s a vibrant spot for employees to connect, recharge, and soak up the energy.

Partners by Design created three distinct spec suites within Chicago’s AON Center, each tailored to appeal to a range of tenants while maintaining a shared standard of design excellence. Varying in layout and feel, the suites include flexible conference room sizes, open collaboration zones, and unique café and pantry configurations that cater to different working styles. One suite features a speakeasy-style lounge—an unexpected and memorable element that enhances the tenant experience. Curated artwork, custom millwork, and subtle changes in architectural detailing bring individual character to each suite while ensuring cohesion across the floor. The result is a refined, branded workplace that feels both timeless and vibrant.

Something feeling a little fishy? That’s exactly the point. Our client, a champion of sustainability—especially in aquatic ecosystems—wanted their workspace to reflect that mission. Working closely with our collaborators, PBD designed a custom fish tank installation that not only anchors the space visually but also reinforces their environmental ethos in an unordinary way.

Originally constructed in 1924 and located in the

Originally constructed in 1924 and located in the heart of Chicago’s financial district, 231 South LaSalle stands as a historic architectural landmark. Recently reimagined as a destination for today’s modern workforce, the building has attracted a diverse mix of tenants, including companies like @relativity.hq

Given the building’s rich history, preserved architectural elements were thoughtfully integrated into the design to honor its legacy. Nowhere is this more evident than in the executive boardroom, where original heritage windows serve as a focal point. Carefully restored—retaining original glass while integrating modern welding placements—these windows offer a subtle nod to the Japanese aesthetic philosophy of wabi-sabi, embracing imperfection and timeworn beauty.

To complement these preserved features, PBD designed the boardroom to balance tradition and modernity. A refined material palette—including contemporary tilework and tailored, modern seating—creates a sophisticated atmosphere that honors the past while elevating the space for present-day use.
