The Kansas City office of Husch Blackwell was conceived as an environment that reflects the firm’s hospitality-driven brand ethos while embracing the cultural and artistic identity of its home city. Comparable in size and program to the firm’s St. Louis office, the Kansas City workplace was designed by PBD to achieve the same standard of refinement while establishing its own distinct character and sense of place.
The design is guided by a palette of warm, earthy materials—stone, wood, and textured finishes—that cultivate a sense of balance and calm. These elements appear in both streamlined architectural installations and expressive, undulating details, offering subtle moments of contrast that animate the space. Millwork and structured detailing provide clarity and order, while soft, organic furniture profiles and sculptural ceiling treatments create a fluid rhythm between zones. The layering of surfaces and interplay of light across materials creates visual depth, encouraging the eye to move seamlessly from one element to the next.
The office program includes a series of offices, pantries, huddle rooms, conference areas, and collaboration spaces. Each is planned with equal attention to accessibility, choice, and function, ensuring that the environment supports a wide range of workstyles and user needs. Hospitality-influenced furniture and finishes introduce comfort and warmth to traditionally formal spaces, allowing employees and visitors to feel both welcome and supported.
Branding and artwork, curated by the client, features contributions from local Kansas City artists—embedding the firm’s connection to its community directly into the fabric of the design. These artistic interventions punctuate the workplace with moments of delight and reflection, creating a layered experience that balances professionalism with a sense of human connection.
