Coyote “Den”

PROJECT DETAILS
Building the Buzz

Coyote Logistics is an awesome story. A 2006 start-up, Coyote continues on a path of tremendous growth and innovation (see Coyote Logistics). The “Den” project follows an earlier engagement of Partners by Design involving interior design services for Coyote’s expansion from 20,000 to 110,000 square feet in the Green Exchange Building. The bustling Den, located on the building’s fifth floor penthouse, is sure to build the buzz that escalated when Coyote was named #1 in the Midsize Category on the Chicago Tribune’s 2011 and 2012 Best Workplaces list. Coyote was also named by Inc. Magazine in 2012 as one of America’s 100 top job creators.

100% Energy

Of the Den’s 12,000-square-foot floor area, one third is “party” space, while two-thirds is reconfigurable, collaborative work space. Exuding the creativity of the youthful company and its employees, the Den is bright and “f-ing cool”—per specific direction from Coyote’s CEO.

Delivering the Goods

From the outset, Partners by Design grasped the design goal of this client, whose five-year growth rate is reported by the company to be 41,438%. Partners sought to accommodate changing team sizes and growth spurts within a bright environment that would encourage communication and blend the Den with work spaces. The results:

  • Natural light throughout the space, along with cityscape and green rooftop garden views
  • Flexible technology solutions allowing easy work station reconfigurations and pairing and work group relocations
  • Recyclable, environment-friendly materials, such as deconstructed shipping pallets on the front of the bar, wall lattices and ceiling details; polished concrete floors; and reclaimed factory wood tables, custom built with live edges
  • A birch tree graphic etched on glass at the elevator lobby, suggesting a walk in the woods
  • The Coyote logo – branded into the front of the Bar and also etched on the elevator doors
  • Media zones within work spaces for collaboration and technology sharing
  • Islands at standing height promoting impromptu meetings
  • Glass writing surfaces throughout
  • A 20-foot, fully functioning bar, with three taps, beer coolers, and more
  • A custom, 16-foot sofa
  • Square Feet: 12,000
